AFESU Veleiros is one of the three units of AFESU, a non-profit organization that has been providing professional training since 1963 for women who live in the peripheral regions of São Paulo.
To promote the reduction of the inequality of opportunities and women’s empowerment, AFESU Veleiros offers free courses that facilitate women’s entry into the labour market:
- For children 8-14 years-old: playful and pedagogical workshops after or before regular school help the development of skills, aiming the improvement of disadvantaged children’s creativity and background knowledge, therefore contribute to school performance. Moreover, AFESU Veleiros offers playful workshops on Saturdays for neighborhood communities.
- For teenagers 14-18 years-old: workshops after regular school provide initiation on the professional life with classes about gastronomy and events. The course includes Math,
Portuguese and English classes, in addition to confectionary, buffet, lodging, food and events. - For young people 18-23 years-old: technical course in nursing offers a high level of professional training. The main differentials of the course are human training and supervised internships in partnership with health units that allow the insertion in the labor market.
